Wind & Willow Project

2/29/2012

Comments

During the last few weeks in my Practical Advertising class we have been working on a logo for the appetizer company, Wind & Willow. After learning about the seven different types of logos (which will be discussed in a later blog entry) we were to come up with the packaging mechanical for a Wind & Willow appetizer. For mine, I chose a 3 Cheddar Cheese & Broccoli Bisque soup.

THE CHALLENGE: Cater to the 21st century party planning housewife in her mid thirties by redesigning the packaging as well as creating and updated logo.
THE SOLUTION: By catering to the 21st century party planning housewife, I had to update the muted colors while still maintaining a classic and conservative, but still playful, packaging. For the logo, I used both a sans serif and script font to give it a much needed updated and modern look to it, as seen below.

The Power of Social Media

With the power and advancement of social media on a daily basis throughout the  world, it made me think.... How quickly would The Holocaust have ended if we were to  have had social media back then?? It amazes me how we have used it lately on social and economic issues like the Arab countries uprising, the death of Osama Bin Laden and yes, even last year's Charlie Sheen #winning meltdown. Most importantly, in usually 140 characters or less if you are using the traditional Twitter methods, news can be told in real time without the wait of the local news station reporting it "first" or the "Breaking News" tag bar on the bottom of your TV.

With the ever-evolving digital world, we must learn how to adapt to the different mediums of social media and their initial intent. The graphic in this post at the top demonstrates the 10 different types of social media that exist with each one having different versions and different even subcatergories of that social media medium.

Next time you think about going on to Twitter to tell everyone you are in a relationship or go on Facebook to use #hashtags follow this simple and easy-to-read Social Media Infographic courtesy of flotown. If you need the infographic larger, please click on the photo and it will open up in a new window. Now get to tweeting.
