Volunteer Mid-South needs some outgoing and reliable volunteers for a project on September 7th we are doing in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and Hands On Network. Volunteers will be manning a booth at the Convoy of Hope event at the Cook Convention Center. The event serves low income and some homeless people with a variety of services. We would be encouraging the event participants to sit with us for a few minutes to begin completing an Emergency Financial First Aid Kit that will help them collect information they would need if a disaster occurred and they were forced to evacuate. We saw a lack of this sort of preparedness when we helped with the evacuees form Hurricane Katrina. Here’s a little information on the volunteer positions: Recruiter: Volunteers will be outside the booth recruiting participants and offering them the opportunity to get a FREE Build a Disaster Kit Bag and to win gift cards if they work with a volunteer to begin completing a Emergency Financial First Aid Kit. Disaster Plan Helpers: Volunteers will work in the Disaster Plan Completion Area and assist participants in BEGINNING TO COMPLETE an Emergency Financial First Aid Kit. A brief volunteer training will be provided. Volunteers do not need deep financial knowledge; they just need to explain the importance of having financial records ready in case of disaster or evacuation. They also need to be able to help participants understand the FREE plan book. Click the link here to sign up for this volunteer job. Hours of event: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7th Cook Convention Center 255 N. Main St., Memphis, 38103. Volunteers will work 3 ½ hour shifts – 9:00 to 12:30 and 12:00 to 3:30. |
